Burringham Karate club is a member club within the Hara Shotokan Academy.
We aim to help people train and progress at their own pace within a structured syllabus, to achieve their personal goals.
Shotokan karate is a martial art in which you endeaver to learn Kihon (basics), Kata (forms), and Kumite (sparring).
All three require you to develop striking, blocking and kicking skills which will become more effective with practice. This is a discipline which requires time to develop and a certain dedication to the art.
Please be aware that there is a certain amount of contact, (in a controlled manner), that is needed to become an effective Karateka, however you will never be asked to engage in this unless both you and your instructor are confident with your skill level.
Karate helps people young and old to become more confident, disciplined and physically active in a controlled environment. A lower age limit of 8 years old has been set at the Burringham club, this is purely due to the concentration required of our fellow students.
There are no fitness requirements to start training in karate but as your karate developes then the energy needed increases, which will naturally improve your health and wellbeing
